Skin On Chest, Shoulders, Legs Turns Red And Blotchy When Aroused. What Is The Cause And Cure?

The skin on my chest , shoulders, arms, and even legs turns incredibly red and blotchy whenever I am turned on . It s very embarrassing because it doesn t look like a regular blush, it looks like I have a serious rash . This redness doesn t effect my face at all, as a matter of fact the skin on my face gets healthier looking, but in no means red, whenever this happens. I ve read online that it could be caused by adrenaline, but that doesn t 100% make sense in my situation because I don t turn red during other adrenaline causing activities-- such as embarrassment, rock climbing, and martial arts. Do you have any idea what this is and how I can manage it? (I ve heard beta-blockers... But would much prefer an alternative if there is one...) Thanks for your time!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite normal for the skin to get red when you are turned on & there's adrenal rush also. Attraction for the partner also causes such blush, there is nothing to feel embarrassed about. Do not feel self conscious, stay relaxed, control excitement, do not get anxious, it should reduce to a normal blush. However, if you have high blood pressure & obesity you are suggested to visit ER & get a thorough medical check up done to rule out high adrenaline level in the blood. High adrenaline level in the blood in the long run may cause heart disease or lead to metabolic syndrome or cause hypercortisolemia. Get clinically examined by a GP, get blood tests done. If the reports are positive for high adrenaline level or hypercortisolemia, get treated. Balanced healthy diet (low sugar fruits and vegetables, yogurt, fresh fruits, veggies, berries) & weight control (low BMI) effectively help to reduce high adrenaline levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
