Should I Go To Emergency Room As I Am Having Excruciating Pain And Swelling On Knees?

I injured my knee pushing furniture with the outside of my leg. Pain was excruciating and caused me to drop. Pain radiated up my thigh and down leg. Now my knee is burning and I have difficulty putting weight on it. Slight swelling but not significant. Is this a hospital er visit? I am looking up orthopedic surgeons and I don't anticipate getting appointment for days if not weeks. Thanks

Pain Medicine & Palliative Care Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Following this type of injury and with this level of pain, I suggest you do need to see a specialist. However, the first line treatment would be pain relief with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Rest and ice your knee. Avoid weight-bearing so crutches may be necessary.
I think this would be the advice from the ER doctor. Therefore, I suggest you try for an appointment with a knee specialist in the next 1-2 days. If your symptoms get worse in this time then a visit to the ER would be best.
I hope you make a speedy recovery.
