Should I Take A Second Opinion On Taking Alerfix Total For Cold And Cough?

Hi. I am 25 year old female and have had persistent cold and cough for the past one week. The doctor I went to, checked my BP and heart rate normally and said I have an allergy which will remain life-long. He has prescribed Alerfix Total for 30 days to be taken up again later on a daily basis. I want to know if I should get a second opinion or just continue taking these tabs? Also, there is a history of asthma in my family. My grandmother and one aunt had it. Does it mean I am likely to get it later as the doctor said I need to take proper precautions against dust and fumes or it might get worse.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain cough and cold can be due to Viral infection and as it is just one week it cannot be immediately confirmed as allergic reaction..
I would suggest you to take antibiotics like Azithromycin, decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytics like Ambroxol and do warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
In case if still it does not resolve in a week then you should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do certain investigations and allergic testing and then only he can confirm the cause and treatment can be planned accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
