Should I Take Elavil For The Pain In My Vulva?

My doc is prescribing Elavil for pain I am experiencing in the vulva area. I am wondering if that works for pain such as this? Wasn t sure why an anti depressant was being used? I am currently on Oxycodone for the pain, which works, but I do not want to stay on this drug any longer than necessary.

OB and GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Elavil (amitryptiline) is an antidepressant used to treat depression and mood disorders, but it may also be used to treat other conditions including nerve pain, eating disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder.

I believe your doctor is suspecting the nerve pain in you. You should continue the medication which your doctor has prescribed you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Naira Jahangir, OB and GYN Specialist
