Should I Continue Metformin For Diabetes While Suffering From Nerve Pain?

I am diabetic since last about 10 years. I am on medicine, primarily Glimpride and metformin. Since last about 3 to 4 months, sugar is fluctuating and I have been advised to take saptagilitin 100 mg and glimpride dose has been reduced. More or less it s close to range. During this time I am loosing weight, feeling very weak, joint and nerve pain, pain in bone and I feel weak bone. In last about 2 months I lost pletelet count by about 76000 and now it s 114000. Other blood parameters are ok. I was advised ecosprin AV 75 also. It creates doubt in my mind whether I have cancer in bone or in blood or in some part of my body. Ultrasound is also ok. Please advise. Thanks, R K Singh Age -43 ys, Height - about just above 6 ft, weight - about 68 kg

Thanks for posting your concern. Please don't be afraid of cancer right now. Firstly, you continue with your current medications including gliptin and you can have a vitamine supplement with antioxidants. Do a few tests- blood for complete blood count, coagulation profile including p-time and INR, serum calcium and phosphate. Nerve complications are actually common in longstanding diabetes patients. You need to check your kidney too. Get one 24 hr urine protein done to rule out DKD. And again I don't feel you need to be concerned regarding a cancer right now. Be resilient enough to fight back the non-communicable diseases. And believe me, you can do that. Be optimistic and let's fight diabetes and the metabolic complications together. Wish you a healthy life. Please report in HCM or to your local doctor with above investigations done. Regards.
