Should I Be Concerned With High LDL?

My overall cholesterol is 234 with HDL 58, LDL154 and tryiglicerides 117. I workout 6 days a week, and bike 80 miles a week. I maintain a pretty healthy diet, but my downfall is late night snacking and not getting 8hrs sleep. I am also on a statin 20mg but have not been taking it consistently every day, but Every other day, due to a leg cramp I experienced. Should I be concerned with this high LDL? or just go back on the statin daily. Also, should I get the LDL broken down further like measuring the large particles vs the small particles? I am very disappointed in my numbers here, as I do eat a rather healthy diet. Thanks!

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

Regarding your concern I would explain that the values of LDL are not a significant indicator of your cardiovascular risk, so you should not worry about them.

A more confident indicator of your cardiovascular risk is the ratio total cholesterol/HDL ratio, which is your case results around 4.03.

You should knowt that this is not a high ratio and indicates that you are at a low risk of cardio vascular disease.

You there is no need to take any statins.

I would recommend continue having a healthy diet (full in omega 3 food) and perform a lot of physical activity.

A reduce in the weight is needed if you are overweight.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes!
