Shin Bruise After Car Accident. Turning Purple. Is It Healing?

I was in a little car accident earlier this week and I got a bruise on my shin from it, but all throughout the week, the bruise has been getting worse and worse. Is this normal? It's very yellow and hard in the center, then a reddish purple around the center, and then a large blue ring around that. How do I know if it's healing or if it's just getting worse?

Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic
Bruise or contusion or hematoma is bleeding under the skin. It normally heals with change in color. The extravasated red blood cells has a pigment called hemoglobin. This gets converted to different other pigments like biliverdin, bilirubin etc giving rise to these varied colors. Do not worry. It will slowly become normal.
Only thing to rule out is whether the central yellow area is pus filled or just a color change. If it is pus filled it has to be rained for faster recovery.
Hope this helped
Take care
