Severe Pain On Left Side Of Face While Flying, Nausea. Taken Ibuprofen. Treatment?
Hi, I flew to XXXXX last summer and experienced severe pain on the left side of my face while on the plane. Since then I always experience the same pain even when I go up the mountains for a drive. It feels like my face is being drilled and it s accompanied by nauseous feeling. I took ibuprofen but didn t help much. Please tell me what else can I do to at least alleviate the severe pain.
hI,
The Ear pain & muffled hearing while travelling in a plane during ascending or descending is due to sudden variation in the external pressure leading to ear drum stretch & injury. Also due to movement of fluid in the middle ear to balance the external pressure. For those who have sinus or cold the symptoms will be more because of existing congestion. Oral Antihistamine & decongestants prior to travel, Plucking of ear during ascending or descending, drinking of water once the symptoms occur may help to relive the symptoms. The same external pressure variation occurs during climbing up or down the mountain by a car.Take precautions.
Best Wishes
