Red bumps on palm, knees, foot and abdomen. Is it chicken pox? name is irene, 34 y.o, form Indonesia. I have a 3 y.o daughter who has red bumps on her palms, knees and behind the knees, foot and bottom. Some of the bumps (on her hands) looks like fluid filled blister and that s make me think that she has chickenpox . But when I search her body for another blister, i cannot find any. For 3 nights she has a low fever (no more than 37.5 C). And she said those bumps/blister arent itchy. Today, I go to the pediatrician and the doctor said my daughter has a pyoderm. What the differences between chickenpox, pyoderm or HFMD? Thanks

Pediatrician 's  Response

Good that you have seen a Pediatrician.

Chicken pox is a viral infection- first it starts as itchy red rash, then becomes a blister, then crusts and heals. Usually more rash is seen on chest, back, face and scalp than on the limbs.

HFMD- is also a viral infection- presents with fever, sores in the mouth and then red rashes in palms, feet, buttocks etc- they may become blisters- but usually don`t cause itching. Its self limiting.

Pyoderma is a bacterial infection and presents with pus filled lesions or crusty lesions as in impetigo. They need to be treated with antibiotics. They present with fever, crusty lesions will cause itching.

But without seeing the lesions- one can not conclude.
Your doctor would have arrived at the conclusion after examination of the lesions- Please follow his advice.

Wish your daughter- a speedy recovery.
