Recurring Chlamydia Infections. Partner With Conflicting STD Test Reports. Any Suggestions?

hi i had contracted the STD chlamydia back in november and now i have been treated by my gynocologist TWICE in the past 2 months for it. My last culture results came back negative so i thought i was free of it. until this past week when i had unbearable pain urinating and the symptoms i endured where identical to the ones i experienced before being treated. I am going for another visit this Thursday. What could be the cause of this if my results came back negative. If i had sex during the 4 weeks i wasn't supposed to does this mean my culture could have came back negative but it could be false and i could STILL have this? I haven't changed partners. I had a one night encounter with the guy who infected me back in Nov. and since January I have been with my boyfriend. His results had came back negative the first time, then positive, then negative. just like mine. I'm worried that i could have infected him with this again?!

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Although you seem to be experiencing similar symptoms that you experienced the last time you were diagnosed with chlamydia, it does not necessarily mean you have chlamydia even this time. It is likely yes, but it cannot be assumed without thorough investigation. This could be a simple urinary tract infection or a STI like chlamydia also. Please get investigated and examined to confirm the same.

Sexual contact is advised against during the treatment period, as this could result in a reinfection or transmission of infection. But, this reinfection or transmission should take place immediately, not after a long gap.

It is highly unlikely for a culture report to report a false-negative report, but it is possible at less experienced laboratories. Please visit a well-renowned laboratory for a good and accurate result.

Yes, there is a chance you can infect your sexual partner with the infection again, thus, please get diagnosed and refrain from sexual contact during the course of the treatment and up to 7 days after the last dose of medication.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
