Recurred Yeast Infection, Took Monistat. Pubic Are Is Red And Swollen, Tiny Pus Filled Hair Follicle. Reason ?

Hi! About 2 weeks ago I had a yeast infection and took monistat 1 for it. It didn't seem to help much, but about 5 days after taking it, it began to go away. A few days later I really began to itch again and thought it was just because my pubic hair had begun to grow back prickley, and was giving me irritation. I shaved that morning and the next day I woke up with my pubic area red and swollen. There were also what looked like tiny puss filled pimples around each hair follicle. It's been like that for about 4 days now and it's really starting to hurt! I have noticed that my lymph nodes in my groin have become swollen and very sore. I began washing 2 times a day with hibiclens wash and it seems to help a little at the time, but every morning I wake up with it back to how it was on the beginning. I also hold a hot wash cloth over it before I go to bed to help a little. Is this a staph infection, or something else? How can i make it better from home, without going to the doctors? Please help! It's really starting to bother me! Thanks!

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
I suspect it to be a improper treatment of fungal infection.

Because you felt better after taking monistat ( Miconazole). I think you did not complete the full course of the treatment.

I you are my patient i advise you take the following drugs,

1. Terbinafine 250 mg once daily along with or in empty stomach for four weeks.
To help clear up your infection completely, it is very important that you keep using terbinafine for the full time of treatment, even if your symptoms begin to clear up or you begin to feel better after a few days. Since fungal infections may be very slow to clear up, you must take terbinafine for a month. If you stop taking this medicine too soon, your symptoms may return.
2. Use miconazole ointment for local application. Apply upto 3 to 4 cm from the lesion border. so that it help in adequate clearance of infection.
My general advice to prevent reinfection and prevention of spread to other areas are
1. Wash your pelvic area twice or thrice daily. Keeping dry pelvic and groin area is essential to prevent multiplication of fungus.
2. Do not share towels and other cloths. This help in spread of infection to others.
3. Use separate towel for cleaning and drying pelvic area.

Hope this helps.
If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
