Recovering From Pneumonia And UTI. On Meroprenem. Thrush In The Mouth. Reason?

My Dad is in hospital at present, recovering from pneumonia and a urinary tract infection [meroprenem was prescribed - 1500 ml/daily]. He developed thrush in his mouth for which nystatin was prescribed. Just 2 questions:
1. What causes thrush in the mouth?
2. Is nystatin a "statin" drug and will taking iron or vitamins affect its use?
Thanks very much for your help!

DEAR SIR , MEROPENAM IS A POTENT ANTIBIOTIC WHICH CLEARS OF INFECTION FROM THE BODY, ALSO IT WIPES OF THE FRIENDLY BACTERIA PRESENT IN THE BODY ESPECIALLY THE GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT. AS A RESULT THERE IS COLONISATION OF FUNGAL INFECTION IN THE ORAL CAVITY WICH RESULTS IN THRUSH(ORAL CANDID/FUNGAL INFECTION).
NYSTATIN IS A MILD ANTIFUNGAL DRUG AND ITS NAME A STATIN IN A MISNOMER. IT ONLY CLEARS FUNGUS AND NO OTHER METABOLIC OR VITAMIN DEFICIENCY. JUST A SIMPLE B-COMPLEX WOULD DO THAT ALSO TO AID IN ORAL ULCER AND TRUSH HEALING.
