Hello Abdul and congratulations, I suggest you get on your folic acid IMMEDIATELY. I wish all women of childbearing age would take a multivitamin so this doesn't happen. Folate prevents neural tube defect deformities and other problems. You ask about food. Folic acid is only available by pill and you cannot manage this by diet. If you had been in a folate repleted state when you got pregnant, that would have been optimal. Folate is available in some foods such as 1 cup of raw spinach, orange, peanut butter, milk, beef and raisen bran. Since you are depleted you need the folic acid. Just think to yourself that it is for the baby!
Good Luck! Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
