Prescribed Promethazine/codine Along With Z-pack For Treating Pneumonia. Is It Safe?

Hi, my doctor prescribed a syrup called promethazine w/ codine for my pneumonia to be taken once before going to sleep each night. Three days into this i am not feeling better and what light research i have been doing says not to prescribe that to treat pneumonia. She did give me a Z-pack to treat the pneumonia but added this supposedly so i could sleep. Is this safe?

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
You have been diagnosed with Pneumonia which is bacterial infection of lungs.
It is treated with appropriate antibiotics in your case it is Z Pack.

Pneumonia is accompanied by cough and production of sputum or with dry cough if there is dry cough the cough suppressant like codeine and promethazine are given.

There is no problem in taking treatment as it relieves your cough.
If productive cough is there usually cough expectorants are preferred.

Your doctor knows best please have faith in you treating Physician and you will be all right in few days.

Hope this information helps.

Take care
Good Luck.
