Perforated Both Eardrums, Viral Infection. Taken Antibiotics. What Can Be Done?

My daughter recently perforated both her eardrums during a viral infection. She completed 10 days of antibiotics yesterday and when the doctor saw her again today he said one drum was still dull. Is this a concern? She appears to hear normally and we have been referred to an audiologist to check. We are flying in 4 weeks time, will this be a problem?

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

I had gone through your query and understand your concern.

You can wait for 3 more months.
Perforation will heal spontaneously.

If the perforation persist for more than 3 months without any signs of healing, You can consult your doctor for Myringoplasty.

Please follow these advice till it heal spontaneously
1. Avoid entry of water into the ear while bathing or swimming. Use water proof ear muffs and packed cotton while taking bath.
2. Immediately treat any respiratory infection with antibiotics.
3. Do not self clean external ear canal.
4. Do not instill any oil or drops to remove wax.

Hope this helps.
Please reply for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
