Pain In The Right Side Of My Chest, Excess Cough And Mucus Discharge. Nose Blocked In The Mornings. Cause & Cure?

i have been told from my doctor that it is only brusing but the pain is still very sore. it is on the left side of my chest. i find relief if it is rubbed but for the last week i have been up at night time with it. i did put a hot water bottle on it and found it a bit easier to sleep but i am coughing a lot and there is a lot of mucus coming up and my nose is blocked quite heavily in the morning and sometimes with blood.

Thank you for the query.

I assume that you have had chest trauma recently what has caused bruising you are talking about. In such case, what is visible (bruise) does not have to be the only reason of your pain and breathing problem. Very often with chest trauma ribs get broken. Very often it is not diagnosed as does not cause any serious symptoms except pain. But sometimes rib fracture causes air accumulation in the chest (between the lung and the chest wall). It causes impeded breathing and sometimes can be life threatening. It can also lead to pneumonia.
That is why I suggest you to visit your doctor once again and gave some tests done. Chest X-ray and ribs X-ray should be done. Diclophenac 50 mg twice a day (prescribed by your doctor) can help with the pain.
