Pain And Bruising When Sitting. Hip Injury. Is It A Fracture?

I fell on my hip/but 3 days ago. I can walk and move my leg in all directions, even when laying on my back I can lift my leg straight up in the air. But when I sit I am in pretty bad pain and I just started to notice some bruising starting to happen. Lastly while I can turn my leg in all directions and walk with my leg in all ways I ve notice I m tending to point my foot outwards. I am not insured and cannot afford a doc bil so I m wondering if you think it s a fracture or just a deep bruise

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

From the description of your problem, it is unlikely that you have sustained a fracture. Severe pain, swelling and restriction of movement are the cardinal features of a fracture invoving a major joint like the hip joint. The fact that you are able to walk and have a near normal range of mobility are pointers against a hip fracture. It is more likely that you have sustained a soft tissue injury and the skin discoulouration could be due to a hematoma. I would suggest that you take adequate rest, apply hot fermentations over the area and take some anti-inflamatory medication like ibuprofen, which should be available over the counter. However, if you pain is persistent or your symptoms are worsening, then you need a detailed evaluation and further medical attention.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar
