On Subutex, Have Intense Pain Due To Infected Wisdom Tooth. What Can Be Done For Relief?

I am currently taking 4mg of subutex daily but I have impacted wisdom teeth that have been infected and are creating almost unbearable pain. I don t know what to do. The pain is so bad I can t sleep or eat or get through the day. I have some Vicodin and percocet but I haven t taken any because I read online that it won t do any good with the subutex in my system. Is there anything I can do?

dear friend, impacted wisdom teeth sometimes really create a deep throbbing pain, especially when they are infected/ decayed. Sometimes, they may lead to space infactions as well (infection and swelling of surrounding tissues). The BEST TREATMENT FOR THESE IS TO GET THEM EXTRACTED. since they are considered VESTIGIAL ORGANS (organs/ tissues having no functional role). Also, even if your pain subsides anyhow, there are very good chances, that it mey reccur within a few months..

So seek an opinion from a dentist, get a Xray done, and get them extrated without any sort of hesitation.

Lastly you need not to worry about these extraction, as it won't lead to any sort of problem for your rest of the teeth.

hi,

The problem is in wisdom tooth and the amount of pain is sharp, continuous as you can not sleep also.

It may be because of Pericoronities which means the infection in the flap overlying the partially erupted tooth or it may be because of deep caries in the wisdom tooth.

Wisdom tooth has no importance untill and unless the other counter part of it is present, as it help in mastication only when upper and lower are erupted and are in occlusion.

I suggest that visit your dentist get an X- Ray done, evaluate for the opposite tooth and caries present in the wisdom tooth and then proceed for the treatment.

For immediate relief you can start with antibiotics and analgesics but for long term relief you have to get it removed if it is carious other wise go for pericoronectomy i.e removal of overlying flap on wisdom tooth.

Dr. Vishal Jain.

Hello,
I have read your problem, you are having problem because of wisdom tooth impaction. You have not mentioned about site (RIGHT OR LEFT OR UPPER OR LOWER) , I can imagine,it must be in lower tooth RT OR LT looking to the severity. Wisdom tooth is vestigial organ for our body ,get rid of this tooth ,it will not create any harm to your body. There is no need to put any artificial tooth in to that space,it is very difficult to clean that area also, assess of toothbrush is very difficult in that area. Because of lack of space in jaw during development, there will be no space left for wisdom tooth that is why problems occuer with wisdomtooth.First go to the oral surgeon clinic and fix up your appoinment for extraction of wisdom tooth. Oral surgeon will manage extraction under antibiotic ,analgesic, trypsin, chymotrypsin ,b-complex and antisptic mouthwash coverage. After surgery,he will guide you management to bear pain and swelling part.
Best of luck.

Dentist Dr. Anshumala Singh's  Response
Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

wisdom tooth is considered as vestigial organ.

you can easily get it removed by an oral surgeon.please make a note that too much of analgesics and antibiotics is not good for your body.

Also, if this impacted tooth remains there, it might damage the roots of adjacent tooth too.

Therefore please get it extracted as early as possible.

Meanwhile do warm saline rinses and take analgesics until you see your dentist.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hi,

Thanks for aksing the query,

I would like to tell you that wisdom tooth is the last tooth to errupt in the oral cavity and is often impacted, malaligned. Its better to get it extracted if causing any trouble.
I would suggest you to visit an Oral Surgeon and get the checkup done take an OPG radiograph and plan for the extraction of the wisdom tooth.

Take with a course of antibiotics and analgesics under prescription of your Dentist.
At home, take lukewarm saline rinses and antiseptic mouthwash gargles.
Maintain a good oral hygiene.

Hope this helps out.
