Can Fluxocillin Be Taken Along With Pericoronitis?

Hi I am on a course of fluxocillin for an infection, however I think I also have pericoronitis (have had it before and was treated with amoxicillin). What I want to know is whether the fluxocillin will work on pericoronitis or whether I ll need to get another antibiotic? Thanks Darren

Hi,

Flucloxacillin is an antibiotic effective against infections gram positive bacteria such as skin/wound, or bone infections, where as, pericoronitis is usually caused by gram negative organisms and for that Amoxicillin or Erythromycin with Metronidazole are usually effective in treating such infections. Hence, you need to take additional antibiotic as suggested above to be prescribed by your dentist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
