On Morphine For Chronic Pain, On OTC Oxymetazalone Nasal Spray. UA Showed Positive For Meth. Any Ideas?

I am taking morphine for chronic pain and give a UA for refills. The only thing I have used other than meds prescribed to me is OTC Oxymetazalone in the form of nasal spray. I have showed positive for meth twice now, and the first time it was sent to Mayo for confirmation. They came up negative for meth. My rural hospital said that "their equipment must not be as calibrated as ours.". I know I have not taken anything else, so I was hoping for some answers.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

As mentioned by your current laboratory, their laboratory and machine might not be calibrated to specifically detect the presence of meth, the way Mayo's machinery would be.

The reason why the current machinery/laboratory is returning a positive result is purely due to the presence of morphine in your system. Morphine is also screened for abuse, as many individuals tend to abuse it. The rural hospital will just have to take your word for it along with the report sent by Mayo, that you are meth-free. Do not worry, as a medical professional I trust the report provided by Mayo and in turn trust you with all the information you have provided. Do not worry.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
