On Lexapro and Wellbutrin. Diagnosed with depression. Can I add Celexa. Is it a anti- depressant?

I currently take several medications for different health issues. Two of these are Lexapro and Wellbutrin. I was diagnosed with acute depression about 7 years ago and numerous medicines were tried individually. It was only when these two were prescribed in combination that the depression became noticeably less severe. However, after therapy for 5 years and a stay in a mental "hospital", I still do not have my life back. I was wondering if adding Celexa might be something I should discuss with my doctor? I used a Drug Interaction questionnaire which indicated there were no serious interactions with any of my medications, even if I included Celexa. Is Celexa actually an anti-depressant or is it similar to Abilify? Thank you! God Bless You and Your Family.

Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
You are already on escitalopram and bupropion and citalopram i.e celexa has almost similar profile of activity as your escitalopram i.e. Lexapro. So you wont be benefitted much by the addition of this new medication that you are thinking about.
Talking about augmenting your present therapy, adding lithium or an antipsychotic like quetiapine, olanzapine would be more effective. Also try augmenting your therapy with cognitive behavioural therapy. That has shown good results.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

I was just prescribed .5 mg or 1/2 tab of Lexapro to augment the use of Willbutrin SR 150mg (bid) Have taken Wellbutrin for at least 10 years and it has been the only anti-depressant that was effective. d/t many circumstances and stressors, my depression became worse this year. My Psychiatrist recently prescribed Lexapro to augment Wellbrurin (started at .25 mg (1/4 tab) x 1 week, then went to 1/2 mg which I am now on. My question #1) is, b/c it has made me drowsy during the day, could I take it h.s. and perhaps not experience the daytime drowsiness. Question 2) In the past, I usually have a glass of wine at dinnertime or one lager ale. All the literature I have read says that ETOH is not safe with Lexapro.. I had my annual P.E. this week and am in good health. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I have been suffering from major depression for years, why does ssri s, snri s, mao, trycyclics all fail? not until my MD tried Adderall, Ritalin then focalin have I experienced some relief? I have tried them all wellbutrin, nardil, paxil, Lexapro, celexa, remeron, Effexor, Prozac, ALL of them. Focalin totally erase my depression, not just covers it up, cures it! I say this in reference to the book by Russell Barkley PhD. Yet the stigma and difficulty is unbelievable! I don t mean to sound ignorant but the medical professionals need to get their head out of their ass and wake up! So many people can be cured that needlessly suffer, my brother is the same and can not get the medication, due to ignorance, any suggestions?

I am a 28 year old female with a number of autoimmune disorders - fibromyalgia the most recently diagnosed. I am currently on Lexapro, Zegrid OTC, Flexeril, Singulair, proventil inhaler, claritin, 25mcg synthroid, and I also take vit b complex, c, and d daily as well as a kids multivite. My question is that in the past several months, I have been unable to achieve orgasm without great difficulty (by myself even - and I used to be able to do that incredibly quickly without any problems. When I do orgasm, my legs and arms go numb and very painful, and my heart beats out of my chest, and I feel like I can t breathe. I had an EKG in november that was normal, but I have had several incidences of tachycardia including when I was woken up from general anesthesia after ovarian surgery. Could this be a heart problem even with a normal EKG?
