Need Generic Medicine For Reflux. Taking Prilosec. No Relief. Cannot Afford Nexium. Alternatives?

I am looking for a medicine for reflux, something generic. I take 2 20 mg prilosec each morning now but still have a lot of reflux. I do have my bed propped about 3 inches plus a lge pillow. Nexium does help me but I can't afford it. I try not to eat late but if I do I practically have to prop sitting up for hours on my back or I reflux. I need help of something I can afford that will help. Please help.

Thank you, Wathena Marin

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. There are many generic medications available for reflux disease. If prilosec is not helping, you might want to try Zegerid OTC, milk of magnesia and pepto bismol along with tums. I believe you need to take all these medications on empty stomach. If simethicone is available over the counter in your country you may want to try that medication as well. If affordability is in question you might want to approach community resources to help with the medical condition. Consult a local doctor or a nurse practitioner who can help guide you regarding medications.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
Cheaper alternatives to PPI's (proton pump inhibitor) are "H2 receptor antagonists" which are antisecretory agents for suppressing acid secretion.
But i suggest you to consult a gastroenterologist and take his advice before taking any form of self treatment.
Hope this helps
