Neck Pain, Difficulty Sleeping. What Is The Problem?

My 30 year old son just called to tell me he has stabbing pains in his neck that are making it impossible to sleep. They started Thursday night and are getting worse. I told him to go to the emergency room since he has recently moved from MO to CA and does not have a doctor. I am waiting and worrying. Can you give me any idea of what the problem is.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The stabbing pain in the neck is likely to be related to neck muscle spasm. Taking adequate rest, hot fomentation and an oral muscle relaxant will help in decreasing the pain and the spasm he is having.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. You can consult me again directly through my profile URL http://bit.ly/Dr-Praveen-Tayal
