Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom refuses to go to the doctor to get blood pressure pills. My mom has ridiculously high blood pressure (she is very prone to stress) for years now. Last year we went to the doctor and he was very stern with her. He got blood pressure pills for her right away and told her that she was not a good patient for refusing to come in and get check-ups in the past. I have been asking my mom almost everyday now for the past 2 MONTHS if she has gone back to the doctor to get blood pressure pills and she keeps saying I m going to book and appointment . But she doesn t because she did not like being yelled at by the doctor and she scared of being dependent on the pills. I am angry because she refuses to go back (she s also thinking of changing doctors) but keeps giving me the impression that she will go back. She also thinks she can handle in on her own naturally, but I m scared of her having a stroke. Help!! I m SO frustrated.
Your Mom will be fine without her "blood pressure pills".
If they're beta-blockers in fact, not taking them will actually lower her risk of stroke or heart attack, if her cardiac function is actually impaired.
Your pestering her does not help, and will be increasing her stress.
it's her life, her health, her decision, -let her live it the way she wants to. - In the same way you'd want to live yours, without her nagging you.
Honest, - the pills won't even be noticed...
