General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
It seems that you might be having some problem in your spinal vertebrae.
If you are elderly then there might be having osteo-artheritis changes in your lumbo-sacral spines.
Go for x-ray of lumbo-sacral region.
Consult orthopedic surgeon and get examined.
Take calcium, vitamin A. D. and B.complex supplements.
Do back extension exercise.
Ok and take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

All the symptoms in your description typicallys suggests LUMBAR DISC DISEASE with RADICULOPATHY.

The initial management of your problem will be as follows -

* avoid lifting heavy weights
* avoid forward bending activities
* Use a lumbosacral back support
* Intermittent pelvic traction
* Maintain optimum body weight,if you are obese
* Physiotherapy to strengthen your back muscles. Physiotherapy has to be done only after the acute pain has subsided.
* Judicious use of analgesics and muscle relaxants.

If the above measures fail to provide pain relief, then an EPIDURAL STEROID injection can be tried which at times gives excellent symptom relief.

If everything fails, then you may need a surgical decompression.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
