Is There Any Issues To Use Azithromycin Along With Alcohol?

My boyfriend and I were prescribed azithromycin, one dose in which we took yesterday. It has been well over 24 hours and were wondering if it would be possible to have a few social drinks tonight. Will it have an effect on the drug prescribed? or will it be ok

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is not safe to take alcohol while on azithromycin. Since it may take more than a week to get the chlamydial infection cured by azithromycin hence it is not advisable for you to take alcohol or other social drinks at least for another one week or so.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
