Is There Any Doctor Available To Analyse This Report?
my father has been taking alcohol and aslo smokes from the past many years. recently he suffers from loose motions and had his liver test done. his bilirubin and sgot were high. what is he suffering from?? waht precautions should he take now. plz ans
Hello and welcome to HCM, Elevated bilirubin and SGOT levels in the background of alcoholism suggests presence of alcoholic liver disease. However, you need to get more tests done to confirm the diagnosis. Alcoholic liver disease is associated with elevated SGPT levels, elevated gamma Gt and elevated 5-nucleotidase. Besides an ultrasound of the abdomen also needs to be done to look for evidence of fatty liver disease. Whatever be the result, your father needs to discontinue the alcohol to revert the deranged liver functions. Alcoholic liver disease is reversible to an extent but becomes irreversible after damage is marked.
