Is The Side Effect Of Savlon Causing The Burnt Skin Of A Child To Become Black And Swollen?

My 3year old child got burns with hot water . We applied savlon for cleaning followed by sofradex and silverex. The skin has become black and swollen even in adjacent areas and is increasing every day. Is it due to any allergy/ side effect of savlon? What should we do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The scalds show the real problems within a few days. Yes, Savlon or any such chemicals should use with a caution in any child, particularly in case of scalds. TH black skin around can be due to scalding itself showing effects after some time.

The best way is to apply Povidone-iodine ( the least reactions). The baby may need an antibiotic and only a doctor can tell the depth of injury. Visit a surgeon, and get proper evaluation and treatment if you want the sequel and complications to keep at a minimum.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T Chandrakant
