Is The 2 Step PPD Test Safe And Correct?

I had a one-step PPD test done on May 18th, 2011 to fulfill school medical requirements. In about 2 weeks I will be attending an internship site in another state. They require a 2 step PPD test to be done. My doctor is saying I can complete this test by getting the first step done on June 20th, 2011 and then the second step on June 30th, 2011. Is this correct/safe? Is it too soon to get the two-step right now? I am having doubts about the whole situation, however for the most part I know very little about PPD testing.

Thank you for your question on HCM. PPD is purified protein derivative of TB protein. So it acts as antigen. And the basic purpose of this test is to identify sensitivity of Tb and if present infection is there or not. It is only screening test not a diagnostic test. And it gives positive result if
1. Patient is having infection with TB
False positive in
2. Infection with environmental mycobacteria.
3. Past history of TB.
4. Vaccination with BCG in childhood.
And in my opinion no need for two stage PPD.
