Is Synthroid Suggested For Hives And Thyroid Problems?

My mother, who is 85 years of age, and has thyroid problems for 50 years-had it removed in July of 2005, because she was having hives constantly-Dr. Myers , an endocroligist, recommended she have it removed and she did. Since October of 2013 she has had the hives off and on (twice in the E.R. ). She currently takes 75 mg of synthroid , she is seeing the same allergist as she saw in 2005 who did not send her to the thyroid specialist. Could the build up of synthroid be causing her problem?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,
I have gone carefully through your query and i appreciate the concern regarding to your mother.
While on levothyroxine the TSH level should be checked regularly, every 4 weeks durin the first months and every 6 months when a proper dose is found.
If you have checked it lately and it was within the normal ranges than the dose of levothyroxine is correct and the symptoms are not related to it.
If you haven' t checked i would suggest to do it because an over dosage may have occurred.
Hope the information will be somewhat helpful.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
