Is Skin Around The Fetus Sign Of Down S Syndrome?

Hi, I am 9 weeks and 6 days pregnant and I went to the doctors the other day and they found a sack or a skin under or around the baby, but they are not sure what it is, they say it may be down s syndrome. They want to do an amniocentesis, I was wondering, with my case and me and only being 17 is there more of a risk of me having a miscarriage or not?

Hi
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic.
I have gone through your query.
I think I have understood your concern, I will try to suggest you the best possible treatment options.
1] First of all do not panic.
2] I will suggest, to get 13 weeks USG scan done; that measures NT a specific area behind the neck and nasal bone.
3] Also get a blood test done called as First trimester screening test or double test.
4] USG and blood test combined gives almost correct idea about risk of Down's syndrome.
5] If the test shows high risk for Down's then only comes the option of doing Chorion villous biopsy or at 18 weeks doing TRIPLE TEST and amnioscentesis.

I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks.
