Is Sharp Pain In Shoulder Blade And Arm While On Treatment For Pneumonia A Cause For Concern?

I went to an urgent care today due to chest congestion, wheezing, trouble breathing and just not feeling well over all. Saw a nurse practitioner at the UC, she listened to my breathing and recognized a great deal of wheezing, so then she ordered a breathing treatment and a chest X-ray. No blood work was done, but she diagnosed me with pneumonia in the lower right lung. I was given a shot of rocefin(antibiotic...sorry if incorrect spelling), sent home with scripts of oral anibiotic, cough medicine, pro air inhaler and albuterol for breathing treatments. Since I ve been back home, I m experiencing severe sharp pain in my right shoulder blade, radiating in to my right arm and even my arm pit. It seems plausible that this is related and/or referred pain, but a bit concerned. Any help would be greatly appreciated?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you have a pneumonia, it is possible that you have some amount of fluid in the sac around your lungs. This can cause some referred pain. I would suggest you take paracetamol for the pain. If it is severe enough to cause difficulty breathing, you should visit your primary care physician for further imaging.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
