Is Severe Coughing A Side Effect Of Smoking Evaporator Cigarettes?

Hi doctor. I ve recently quit smoking for 3 weeks now. I ve been using an evaporate cigarette to help me quit which I find is working really well, however every night for the last 2 weeks I ve had a cough like there s something stuck in the back of my throat, each night getting worse however during the day I m fine. Tonight is the worst I ve been.mthe coughing has been non stop for the last two hours causing me to bring up everything I have eaten. Since vomiting I still have the cough, so I ve tried gargling repeatedly to see if I could clear the problem with no success. Hi let I was gargling I got a really loud vibration in my at first I thought it was sink it was so loud, this happened on 3 occasions immediately followed by dizziness to the stage I thought I was going to pass out. I ve gargles for around 10/15 mins to try and clear whatever is causing me to cough but it hasn t made any difference. and help would be greatly appreciated. Ty

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As you have had habit of smoking for the long time, cilia in your respiratory tract might have degenerated. Cilia are tiny hair-like projections that line the respiratory tract and help in removing impurities from the breathing airway. Smoking destroys cilia. As soon as you quit smoking, body starts the repairing process. So cilia start to regenerate. As a natural reflex process of body, the body responds by coughing. Coughing is highest in the fist few weeks of quitting and then it decreases.

Thus, coughing indicates that the body is healing. However, if it persists for more than a few weeks and is accompanied by fever, pain or weight loss, a consultation with a physician is advised.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
