Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, a dog bit me 23 days ago. I didn-t get the vaccine because we were waiting for the owner to hand over the dog for examination. Long story short, dog was never examined and I never got the shot. Dog is alive. Should I still get the rabbies vaccine anyway?

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM,
Rabies is a disease transmitted by dog bite which is 100% fatal but it is 100% preventable by proper and adequate treatment.
As you were bit by a dog 23 days for which you have not taken any treatment. Don't take any risk with dog bite.
Incubation period in case of dog bite is 2 weeks to 6 months, so I would suggest you to follow 1.Active immunization with antirabies vaccine on days 0,3,7,14 and 28. 2.If there is any bleeding, I would suggest you to take passive immunization with RIGs around the wound. 3.Inj TT, 0.5 ml, intramuscularly Thank you.
