My 84 year old mom is diagnosed with advanced Alzheimer's. In addition to the memory problems, she has severe episodes of hostility only to my dad. With others she is "normal". Her rages stem from delusions of stolen money, items, and family drama. She tells most everyone about her problems as her deepest secrets. The Dr. Prescribed quetiapine. The rages and paranoia and delusion instantly worsened. She started on 12.5 mg at pm, then 25mg. We told Dr she's worse and the Rx was doubled to 25mg 2x a day. The violent rages on my dad are now mostly constant. The Dr says the drug should have the opposite effect and needs more time and proper dosage. My internet research finds only articles saying this drug isn't for Alzheimer's patients. Should we confront the Dr further? Should we give it more time? I am uncertain what to do.
