Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Using Protective Methods?
I am 25 years of age. I was diagnozed of a chocolate cyst in my right ovary. I underwent laproscopic surgery on Jan 11, 2011 to remove the chocolate cyst. I was given a single doze of lupride injection on Jan 17, 2011 to supress my periods for 3 months. Its May now and I still have not got my periods. I sometimes get hot flushes and back aches. I had protected sex (condom used) with my Husband on April 15 and April 24. Why have i still not got my periods? Could I be pregnant despite the use of protection?
Hello Dear Hope you are recovering well from the surgery. Leupride in 11.25 dose suppresses hormones for about 3 cycles and it may take additional 1-2 cycles for menses to resume. Hot flushes and backache are due to the effect of leupride. Make sure you take your calcium and vitamin D supplements for them especially if they need to repeat the leupride dose as bone loss is a known side effect of leupride.
Chances of pregnancy with history of inj leupride and protected intercourse is minimal,However,it (pregnancy) cannot be ruled out with certainity and it would be wise to get an Serum Beta HCG done. A value of more than 25 confirms pregnancy and less than 5 is negative for pregnancy.
Also get an ulltrasound done to follow up the ovaries.
Hope this helps
