Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking thyroid medication for 10 years. I recently had my annual thyroid test done and my TSH results were .28ulU/ml. I have a new doctor due to a move and he is not an endocrinologist but a family medicine doctor. He wants to lower my dosage even though I have been complaining of returning symptoms such as increased hair loss, abnormal periods, fatigue and weight gain. Is his assessment accurate or should I seek a second opinion from an endocrinologist?
The TSH level is slightly on the lower side and it indicates that you are slightly hypothyroid at the moment. So the dose of thyroxine must be reduced.
If you experience symptoms of hypothyroidism a repeat test may be done prior to dose adjustments.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
