Is It Safe To Take Antibiotics When Trying To Conceive?

Hi doc,I am married for 7 years and trying to conceive. I pierced my ears recently and to cope with the pain i took combiflam 4 times in two days. I have stopped it now and consulted a doctor who has prescribed me safe antibiotics for infection. Should i worry about the painkillers that i took?

Hi,

Taking painkillers such as Combiflam (which contains Ibuprofen and Paracetamol) for short-term pain relief should not affect your fertility or chances of conceiving. However, it is always advisable to use medications under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Regarding antibiotics, some types of antibiotics are safe to take while trying to conceive, but it is important to discuss with your doctor the potential risks and benefits of taking antibiotics while trying to conceive.

Certain antibiotics may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills, so if you are using any form of contraception, it is important to let your doctor know so they can prescribe an appropriate antibiotic that does not interfere with your contraception.

In general, it is recommended to avoid unnecessary medications while trying to conceive, but if you have an infection that requires antibiotics, it is essential to follow your doctor's advice and complete the full course of treatment.

If you have any concerns or questions about taking medications while trying to conceive, it is always best to discuss them with your doctor to ensure the safety of you and your potential baby.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
