Is It Safe To Have Intercourse After Two Months Of Total Hysterectomy?

I am 48 and had a total hysterectomy on 12/19/13. Did not attempt intercourse until a full 2 months later. Ended up with tearing and bowel protrusion. Had surgery on 2/19/14 to repair. My initial surgery was robotic and am wondering if this was not effective in closing the vaginal cuff. Latest surgery was via full abdominal incision and mesh was used to reinforce the cuff. I am also on Tamoxifen post partial mastectomy 8/15/13. I am afraid to try intercourse even when the doctor does give me permission. Is masterbation safe? I had an orgasm in my sleep and it scared me that the contractions might jeopardize my stitches healing. Any insight you could provide would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hello and welcome,

I understand that you had a bad experience but it was a temporary phase and passed off.

As you have had a mesh surgery, it will hold now and there must not be any issues.

It takes about 3 months for any wound to heal properly and 2 years for it to regain its full strength.

So I suggest that you wait for 3 months after the mesh insertion to be safe. Also take care to have a proper diet including good proteins and vitamins [ at least 2 serving meat and 1-2 fruits and 2 bowl vegetables every day along with bread and cereals]. This helps in proper wound healing.

Masturbation does not cause any harm. The contractions will not jeopardize your stitches. Please do not worry.

Just wait for a few months and you will not have any problems in future.

Hope this satisfies your query.
