Is It Possible To See Pilonidal Cyst Through MRI Scan?

Hi, m 21 yrs old girl, married, height - 5". 2', weight - 50. i have pilonidal cyst and ma surgery date is fixed. before dat i need to take mri scan myself to check whether the cyst is der or not. is it possible to see pilonidal cyst thru MRI Scan... m waiting for ur reply. thank you.

Thanks for writing in.

A pilonidal cyst is a cystic lesion which is often found in the lower back region. In most patients surgery is the best treatment for this condition. MRI scan can be done for the pilonidal cyst if your surgeon insists that it be done. Even a CT scan of the area will help. But the final call is by the surgeon if there is a need for CT or MRI scans. If the surgeon has examined you and said there is a cyst then it is most likely present. It will be a waste of resources and effort if you choose to get MRI scan by yourself. A diagnosis of pilonidal sinus is mostly clinical and does not require imaging unless necessaary.
