Is It Possible That The Symptoms Of Fainting, weakness And Fatigue Are Not Thyroid Related When Diagnosed With Hashimotos?

My wife who has hashimotos, has lately had an increase in symptoms including a pulse and blood pressure that varies every time we take it, light headed ness, an almost fainting incident while walking, weakness and fatigue, she had an irregular electrocardiography in her annual physical and her doctor suggested and scheduled an echocardiogram. My wife has severe anxiety upon the thought of going to this appt. so she has put it off for three months. I am concerned that she is ignoring heart problems and the current malady has nothing to do with hashi s. Is it possible that her symptoms are not thyroid related?

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

Lightheadedness and fainting sensations may be due to irregular rhythm (called arrhythmias) of the heart, for which she would require further evaluation, including 24-hours' Holter. Treatment would depend on the cause and type of arrhythmias.

Fatigue and weakness is apparently due to Post-hashimoto underactive thyroids. Get Thyroid profile done. Thyroid hormone replacement therapy will alleviate these symptoms.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me, order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable/modified treatment as advised.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.

Take care
