Is It Normal To Have Pain In The Thumb After Being Treated For An Injury?

I sliced my thumb a week ago and the urgent care numbed my thumb with a needle between my thumb and pointer finger and then on the side of the thumb to hit the bone. So they can cauterize my thumb to stop the bleeding well since then the bottom of my thumb close to the palm is in extreme pain. Is this normal?
