Is It Normal To Have Foul Odored Heavy Periods?

I haven't had my period for about 5 months and I finally got it yesterday evening and it's really heavy and bright red and has a really foul odor. Is this normal due to the fact I haven't gotten my period in that long period of time or ? My doctor had also told me I might have pcos and I'm wondering if that would have anything to do with it. I was on the depo for about two years and got off of it 2 decembers ago and my periods have never been the same since.
