Hallow Dear,

You are in your perimenopausal age group. Now you will have to welcome your menopause any time. When you do not get menses for continuous 9 moths, you have reached menopause.

Just before the menopause, the menstrual cycles do become irregular and scanty. This is because of the paucity of the eggs and lower levels of hormones Oestrogen and Progesterone.

However, if your menstrual flow is continuous for three weeks, it is a matter of concern. Some Progesterone preparation like Deviry will stop the bleeding no doubt; however as a first step, please get ultrasonography done. Along with all the reproductory organs, it will throw light on the thickness of the uterine lining (endometrium), any tumour in the uterine walls, etc.. If the endometrium is more than 4 mm in thickness at this age, you will have to undergo study of the endometrium by Hysteroscopy and if needed hysteroscopically directed endometrial biopsy to rule out cancer of the endometrium.

Please report to your Gynaecologist without delay. Along with the treatment, please undergo at least preliminary investigations.

I hope this helps you.
