Hallow Dear,

Vaginal outlet is covered by a thin fibromuscular membrane called as Hymen. It has a very fine opening in it through which menstrual flow passes out.

During first intercourse, Hymen gets ruptured. This is known as defloration. Due to rupture of the hymen, bleeding takes place during first intercourse, which is a normal phenomenon. It will stop subsequently in a couple of days.

Whether you can get pregnant due to this intercourse depends upon when did you have intercourse. Egg is released 14 days prior to the next menses. Egg has a life of 24 hours while the sperms are active for 72 hours. Hence, a period of about one week around the day of egg release is fertile window. If you had intercourse in this window, you can get pregnant.

If you get menses, you are not pregnant. If you miss your period, perform pregnancy test on overnight first morning urine sample 8 days after missing a period; earlier the test may report false negative results.

I hope this helps you.
