Is Elevated Levels Of LDL A Concern?

My LDL is 188 and my HDL and Triglycerides(82) is excellent says my doctor and my total is 272. So why is my LDL so high? and is that something to be concern about? I thought that by having a excellent HDL will take care of the LDL without going on meds.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Elevated LDL is a risk factor for many diseases like stroke, and cardiac disease. Good HDL does not mean you are refractory to them. I would advocate diet changes and exercise along with certain drugs to bring it down to safe levels, around 100 mg/dL.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vaddadi Suresh
