Four months back my girlfriend developed lump behind her ear and its still there, now I have also developed one in my left hand just on my wrist. We are panicking and dont know what it is. Could we relate this to HIV or something. We also booked a Doctor for checkup.
First of all, HIV is not diagnosed only on the basis of symptoms. The lump as mentioned in your post can be either a benign swelling of sebaceous gland or lymph node enlargement secondary to infection.
Regarding your concern about HIV infection, you can undergo certain tests like p24 assay or PCR for HIV, which becomes positive within a week and are almost 100 % sensitive. Even the presence of a single virus in the body can be detected by PCR. So, if this test comes negative, you can be sure that you are safe.
Wishing you a good health. Take care.
