Is Blood Sugar Level Of 375 A Cause For Concern?

My friend is type 2 diabetic and his blood sugar is 375. An hour ago it was 346! He did have a beer (16oz) and sipped on a little wine, but I m concerned that its going up and not down. He took a 1000mg extended release metformin around 1 1/2 hours ago. He is 53 and has been a diabetic for about 4 years. The dr just increased his metoformin to 1000 Mg ER twice a day because his A1c was 8.0 3 weeks ago

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Blood glucose level with 375mg/dl is definitely alarming as your friend's HbA1c level is 8.0 %, which indicates poor control.
Alcohol could also contribute to increase in blood glucose and may impair in bringing down the raised levels.
Kindly consult Diabetologist promptly for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided helps.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
