Is Xanax The Right Medicine For Anxiety And Depression?

After visiting my psychiatrist, I have reported to them I have been experiencing many anxious feelings, more than usual. I have been taking 20mg of Lexapro daily for my depression and anxiety for a few months now. The doctor suggested I cut back 10mg of Lexapro and add in .5mg of Xanax. I have heard many terrible things about Xanax such as the side effects and withdrawals. Some say it can also become very addictive. Should I be concerned? Will this medication be more of a harm to me than a solution?
