Is Oxycodone Advisable For Trigeminal Neuralgia In Person Suffering With Cirrhosis?
Pain relief for Trimengeal neuralgia. My Dr. prescribed Gabapentin and I already can take 3 5mg of oxycodone a day. This does not even touch the pain. I am trying to convince her that when I take 10 mg of oxy 3x a day I actually get some relief. I have cirrhosis so need to be careful about meds. Please give me an opinion. Illona
It is better to avoid taking Oxycodone while suffering from cirrhosis of liver. Since the clearance of opioid analgesics like Oxycodone is dependent upon the liver so in presence of cirrhosis, clearance of Oxycodone is decreased resulting in excessive sedation, constipation, breathing problems and sometimes coma.
If all indicated to treat trigeminal neuralgia, the initial dose of oxycodone must be decreased, the intervals between doses should be increased and you need to be continuously monitored by your doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
